THREE BUCKS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL AMERICANS
Bucks and OU Team Up for Camps in Winter/Spring '09


Pontiac, MI (January 8, 2009) -- Three Michigan Bucks, all hailing from the state of Michigan were named First Team Academic All Americans on earlier this week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Seniors Mike Holody (Clarkston/Michigan), Doug DeMartin (Mason/Michigan State) and Piotr Nowak (Sterling Heights/Oakland) were all given the honor based on their collegiate play and grade point average.  The honor is just one in a long list for the Bucks veterans:


Michigan State striker Doug DeMartin has been named an Academic All American for the second straight year. While leading the Big Ten with 17 goals this season, the Finance major finished with a 3.90 GPA, the second highest out of all 2008 Academic All Americans. DeMartin has been an All Academic Big Ten selection every season of his collegiate career, from 2005-2008. Additionally, the Mason native was named a Second Team All American and Big Ten MVP in 2008, after leading the Spartans to the Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament championships. 

Michigan defender and Bucks captain Mike Holody is a first time Academic All American. The three year Bucks veteran has twice been named an Academic All Big Ten selection in (2006, 2008) and is a three-time Michigan Academic Achievement award recipient (2006-2008). Holody, who majored in Engineering at Michigan finished with a 3.35 GPA. After being named to the All Big Ten Second Team in 2007, Holody was a First Team All Big Ten selection in 2008.  Additionally, the 6-4 center back was a 2008 Third Team All American after leading the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004.  

Oakland midfielder Piotr Nowak is a first time Academic All American. The Accounting major finished with a 3.39 GPA and has been named to the Summit League/Mid-Con Conference All Academic Team and the Golden Grizzlies List of Excellence in Academics every year of his collegiate career (2005-2008). Nowak led the Summit League with 9 assists in 2008 and was a selection to the 2008 League First Team.  

Bucks and OU Team Up For Camps in ’09


The Michigan Bucks and the Oakland University men’s soccer team will host two camps in the early new year at Ultimate Soccer Arenas. Led by Oakland coaches Gary Parsons and Bucks striker Kenny Uzoigwe, the camp coaches will feature players from both the Michigan Bucks and Oakland soccer teams.  Space is limited for each of the two camps, which will be held during winter break (February 16-20) and spring break (April 6-10), and will all run from Monday thru Friday from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Bucks/Oakland camps are open to all boys and girls ages 6-18, but campers will be matched to their coaches based on skill level and soccer ability.
