Opare garnered his first game action for the Bucks mid-way through the season, coming on as a defensive substitute in victories over Hamilton FC and Akron Assault. A lanky defender, Opare made himself integral to the University of Michigan soccer program as a freshman when he saw action in 14 games, earning 10 starts. He was voted to the Big Ten All-Freshman team that year and went on to play in 25 matches for the Wolverines in his sophomore season, starting in 24 contests and leading the team's defense in their run to a 2010 College Cup appearence.
