BUCKS STRAIGHTEN THE COURSE WITH 3-0 WIN
Fuzetti, Robles lead team to first win of the season

CANTON,  MI (May 23, 2009) - Two University of Michigan stars, Mauro Fuzetti (Houston, TX; left) and Julian Robles (Los Angeles, CA; right) led the Michigan Bucks by heading home goals in the first half to lead the side to a 3-0 win over the Cincinnati Kings as part of the Canton Cup Soccer Tournament on Saturday. The Bucks (1-1-1) evened their record with the shutout win and hopefully started a run of consistent play from the combination of newcomers and veterans.

As in the first two games of the season, the Bucks dominated time of possession in the first half, but for the first time took a more direct approach towards goal. The Bucks started the scoring in the 32nd minute when Dave Hertel (Michigan State) crossed a ball into the six yard box where Fuzetti headed home his first goal of the season. The Bucks would continue to press late in the first half when U-M teammates Robles and Fuzetti hooked up right before half time. Fuzetti’s corner kick cleared the back post to the tall defender, who buried a perfect header in the side netting for a 2-0 Michigan lead. This was the Bucks third goal of the season; all scored on headers (two from Fuzetti corner kicks).

The crowd of nearly 1,200 was delighted by the perfect weather conditions and the annual visit of the Bucks to the prestigious Canton Cup tournament for the third consecutive year. Goalkeeper Steve Clark (Oakland) kept the Bucks in the game with ten saves on the day, including two outstanding point blank beauties to keep the clean sheet. To further his bid for PDL player of the week, Fuzetti sent Robles in alone on Kings goalkeeper Matt Williams in the 71st minute. Showing the skills of a natural striker, Julian dribbled past the goalkeeper and slotted home his second goal of the game, and the young season. Defensively, Kevin Taylor, Dave Hertel, Machel James (Oakland) and Robles shut down the Cincinnati offense to help Clark secure his first clean sheet of the season.

The Bucks take Sunday off before heading to South Bend, IN to take on the Indiana Invaders on Memorial Day. The Bucks then return home next Sunday night, May 31 to host the Toronto Lynx at Ultimate Soccer Arenas (7:30 kickoff).
